Saviour Kasukuwere has promised to give title deeds to Zimbabweans if he is elected President in the upcoming polls. The independent presidential candidate made the pledge while on a visit to Kenya.
Kasukuwere said issuing title deeds would be his “top priority” for the people. He said he wanted to compare his governance ideas with President William Ruto’s “bottom-up” economic plan in Kenya.
The former Zanu-PF commissar said he would revive the struggling economy and restore trust in the civil service. He also called for a peaceful campaign and fair elections.
But Kasukuwere faces a tough challenge with big names like Mnangagwa and Chamisa also in the race. The two frontrunners have also promised title deeds to homeowners if elected.
Incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa has begun issuing some deeds, with 265 given out to residents of Epworth township recently. Zanu PF says it plans to eventually give deeds to 11,000 people there.
Kasukuwere’s pledge to hand out cash for titles could give him an edge, especially in traditional Zanu-PF strongholds where he still enjoys support. But it remains to be seen if voters will be swayed by the election promises.
