Chinhoyi was rocked by yet another gruesome murder, this time taking the life of a passionate football fan.
Muranyadzi Mahwine, 40, was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds near the Methodist Church in the Hunyani Section. Mahwine had reportedly attended a Division Two match between Chinhoyi Rangers and Alaska Smelter on Sunday afternoon before meeting his tragic end.
According to a witness, Mahwine was heard screaming and pleading for his life as his attackers demanded money. Despite the cries for help, the witness was too afraid to intervene, leaving Mahwine at the mercy of his assailants.
“I heard him screaming in agony at around 11pm telling his assailants that he had no money.
“But, there was nothing I could do as I feared for my life,” the witness told H-Metro.
The police arrived on the scene shortly after and guarded the body throughout the night.
This is the second murder in the area, with a woman’s body found along a nearby stream just last week. Residents are now calling for increased police patrols in the area as muggings and murders have become all too common.
Michael Machingauta, a concerned resident, begged the police to take action and patrol the area throughout the night to prevent further tragedies.
The community is left in sh0ck and mourning as they struggle to come to terms with the loss of yet another innocent life. The police have launched an investigation into the murder.
