The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has declared its support for President Mnangagwa ahead of the upcoming harmonized elections, pledging to do everything in its power to ensure that the ruling party wins.
During a general meeting held in Bulawayo’s Entumbane, the association’s national political commissar encouraged war veterans to campaign for Mnangagwa and warned that those who do not support the party are free to leave the organization.
The meeting was attended by chairpersons from various provinces, and the Bulawayo provincial war veterans chairman affirmed his support for the government and encouraged members of the association to engage positively with the government.
War veterans also revealed that they had a fact-finding mission to camps in Zambia and Mozambique where their comrades were buried. They plan to bring back the remains of the combatants buried outside the country’s borders.
The ZNLWVA’s national political commissar further stressed that President Mnangagwa has promised to continue improving the welfare of ex-combatants, and war veterans should be galvanized by this pledge to campaign relentlessly for him before the elections.
The Bulawayo provincial chairman echoed this sentiment, saying that members of the association should continue to engage positively with the government, as the country’s political leaders have their genuine interests at heart.
The war veterans also expressed concern about the derelict state of burial sites for their fallen comrades in Zambia and Mozambique. They plan to bring back the remains of combatants buried outside the country’s borders to fulfill their promise when they buried them that they would return for them when Zimbabwe became free.
