Three men from Inyathi in Zimbabwe have been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly axing a man outside a bar.
Nqobizitha Mpofu (28), Mduduzi Ngwenya (23) and Langelihle Mpofu (22) from Kopje village in Inyathi appeared before a regional magistrate who heard the case. They pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted murder.
The court heard that on February 8, 2023 at around 7 pm at Lonely Mine Business Centre, the three accused were in the company of Pritchard Mpofu who is still at large when they approached Blessing Hadebe who was standing outside the bar. For no apparent reason, they turned violent and started striking him with an xe twice on the head and once on the left leg before fleeing the scene.
They left Hadebe lying on the ground bleeding profusely. The victim was taken to the police in Inyathi and investigations led to the arrest of the three accused men.
Hadebe was referred to hospital for medical examination and a medical report was produced in court which showed that he sustained deep cuts to the head and left leg.
The three accused men were remanded out of custody until June 12 for the trial to continue. Pritchard Mpofu who was with them remains at large.
