A 2-year old girl was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Harare’s Tynwald North while playing with friends, according to police. The child was struck by a Toyota Regius vehicle whose driver fled the scene.
In a separate incident in Avondale, Harare, a man died after being hit by an unknown motorist along Lomagundi Road. The driver also failed to stop and render assistance.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they have launched a manhunt for the drivers involved in the accidents. He urged motorists to always stop, render first aid and report accidents to police.
In Esigodini, an unidentified woman around 30 years old also died after being hit by an unknown driver at the 64th kilometer peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road. Again, the motorist fled the scene.
A yet-to-be-identified man also died after being hit by an unknown vehicle along the Harare-Bulawayo Road near Bradford School. The driver did not stop.
Police are appealing for information from the public to aid their investigations into the hit-and-run accidents that claimed the lives of the 2-year old girl, two men and a woman over the weekend.
